Simvastatin, also known under the brand name Zocor, is a medication used for lowering cholesterol by blocking the production of cholesterol in your body. Simvastatin works by reducing low-density lipoprotein, also known as LDL, cholesterol and the total cholesterol from your blood. By controlling your cholesterol can help you protect against heart attacks, vascular problems and strokes. Simvastatin is also used for treating type two diabetes.
Special Precautions while using Simvastatin
There have been some isolated cases, Simvastatin may cause a problem that ends up by braking the skeletal muscle tissue, which is also known as kidney failure. If you experience unexpected muscle pain, muscle weakness, fever or dark colored piss while using Simvastatin you must contact your medical provider without any delays. Special precaution is recommended if you use Simvastatin to control cholesterol on pregnant women. It is recommended not to use it in this case.
Before taking Simvastatin, tell your doctor if you have diabetes, underactive thyroid, kidney disease, a muscle disorder, or a record of liver disease. Avoid eating foods that are high in fat or cholesterol. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Simvastatin. Alcohol can raise triglyceride levels, and might also hurt your liver while you are taking Simvastatin.

Simvastin is FDA pregnancy category X. This medication could cause birth defects. Don’t use Simvastatin if you are pregnant. Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment. Use a useful type of birth control while you are using this medication. It is not known whether atorvastatin passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing baby. Do not take Simvastatin without telling your doctor if you’re breast-feeding a baby. Simvastatin is not to be used in kids younger than 10 years old. Do not take the medication in bigger amounts, or take it for more time than advocated by your health practitioner. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Take Simvastatin with a full glass of water. This medication can be taken with or without food. Simvastatin is mostly taken once per day. Attempt to take your dose at the same time each day.
Simvastatin is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercise, and weight control. You may need to take Simvastatin on a long-term basis for the handling of high cholesterol.
